Rick is on the far left. This was a newspaper write up in the Muscatine Journal many years ago.
Happy Fibertech Friday to you all. Let's talk about how it all started. Rick started flying rubber powered then control line and finally RC when he was 5 years old. He flew with his dad and one of his brothers. He took a short leave of absence in his early 30's. I came in the picture in 1997 when he was 34 and it wasn't long after that he was back in the hobby again.
Rick and I met in May of 1997 and was married that same year in December, this is our wedding day, his mom was his best man and my dad was my maid of honor. We were married at the farm house were I grew up and my step brother is a minister and he married us.
Lets fast forward to late 2009; Rick was thinking about building a Mike Hurley extra 300 from AMA plans. Before he would commit to the build he wanted to make sure everything was available. He found the cowl at AeroFiberTech Products and the first thing that popped up on the web site was "This Business is for Sale". The owner of AeroFiberTech products (Brad) had been running the business for three years and at this time was doing so in Ft Collins Colorado. He had purchased the business from Stan, the original Business was Stan's Fiber Tech.
Rick and I had previous plans to vacation in Estes Park Colorado the first part of October so we made plans to stop by Brad's place and check out the business as it was not to far out of our way. We had a great time on our vacation in Estes Park and two weeks later on October 29th 2009 Rick, Lisa (a very close friend of ours) and myself were making the 12 hour trip back to Ft Collins to pack up the business and bring it back home to Illinois City, Illinois.
Oh by the way, scrapbooking is one of my hobbies.
On January of 2010 we bought Noray, a vacuum form business, went to Wichita Falls Texas and brought that back to our Illinois City Illinois location.
At this point Rick and I were still both working full time jobs; I was a office manager for a collision repair center and Rick a design engineer for the HON company. We tried to do it all but after a few years we decided to stop making a lot of the glass parts; to much to do part time but not enough for me to quit my job and do full time. We did what we could, knowing in the back of our minds we would make the company grow the closer it got to us retiring from our full time jobs.
Fast forward to January 29th 2016 we bought our new location. We now sit on 38 acres with a full scale hanger we have converted into the business, two other out buildings along with the house and garage. We have north south run ways along with an east west runway. We also have a small pond and hope to one day make it bigger.
It took us three years to get pull the plug on our full time jobs and make the permanent move Weaubleau Missouri. We did this on December 14th in 2018. Our physical address is Weaubleau but we are closer to Wheatland Missouri. Welcome to Prairie Field.
You all have a fantastic weekend.
